Liquid Rennet vs. Tablets

Short answer

Liquid rennet and rennet tablets both coagulate milk. Liquid is easier to measure and disperses immediately; tablets are compact and convenient for small batches but must be fully dissolved before use.

The failure mode to know about

An undissolved tablet is one of the classic causes of a patchy set: part of the vat coagulates, part stays loose. If you use tablets, dissolve them completely in cool non-chlorinated water before they touch the milk.
